Regular Meeting – July 14, 2026

President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. Board members present: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. Chris Hare, Russell Township; Jason Abate and John Gromek were also present.

The minutes from the June 2026 meeting were presented by Clerk, Monica Gromek. Ed Curtis motioned to approve the minutes; Evan Byrum seconded. Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. All in favor, motion carried.

Treasurer report - Ed Curtis
Treasurer Ed Curtis distributed the July 2026 treasurer’s report. The treasurer’s report showed: checking balance forwarded: $9,771.05; total disbursements: $23,725.50; Total deposits: $1,680.00 ($1,500.00 Girl Scout reimbursement and $180.00 WG Soccer Club fees); Ending checking balance: $9,771.05, Ending Savings Balance $24,537.70; Total disbursements: $0, Total encumbered funds $17,300.00 (Pickle Ball Court paint & stripe). Rick Izant motioned to accept the treasurer’s report. Chris Domonkos seconded. Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. All in favor, motion carried.
Linda Palchick motioned that the following bills be paid:

Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. All in favor, motion carried.

A copy of the 2027 Budget Detail was distributed by Treasurer, Ed Curtis. Ad was placed in the News Herald. The County wants a copy of it. Years 2026 and 2027 figures were discussed.

ANNUAL APPROPRIATION RESOLUTION Permanent Appropriations
The Board of Trustees of the West Geauga Joint Community Recreation District, Geauga County, Ohio, met in Regular Session on the 14th day of July, 2026 at The Commons Park, Geauga County, Ohio with the following members present: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe and Sara Sustin:
Linda Palchick moved the adoption of the following Resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Trustees of the West Geauga Community Joint Recreation District, Geauga County, Ohio that to provide the current expenses and other expenditures of said Board of Trustees, during the fiscal year ending December 31, 2027 the following sums be and the same are hereby set aside and appropriated for the several purposes for which expenditures are to be made for and during said fiscal year as follows, viz:

GENERAL FUND
60 Program Facility Expense $97,890                                                                                      Total General Fund $97,890

CAPITAL FUND
101 Capital Improvement $20,000                                                                                            Total Capital Fund $20,000

Total All Funds $117,890

Rick Izant seconded the resolution and the roll being called upon its adoption, the vote resulted as follows. Greg Poe, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Sara Sustin, yes; Evan Byrum, yes; Rick Izant, yes.

Adopted this 14th Day of July 2026.

Pickle Ball Court – Ed Curtis said Industrial Surface Sealer painted the 1st coat of black paint on court; they are very good to work with. Sleeves are installed in the ground and cemented in. Painting and stripping along with nets and posts will be the next step. Chris Domonkos motioned to encumber $2,000.00 for the nets and the posts. Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. All in favor, motion carried. Sara Sustin showed the Board the Pickle Ball Court Banner.
A breakdown of what is needed to complete the Pickle Ball and Volleyball courts will be prepared. Jason Abate discussed the reason for a path down the center between the 2 courts. Fencing and landscaping will be done next. Sarah Sustin will approach Kiwanis to explain our project and possibly we could use their kind monetary donation for the landscaping and path. Discussion to put snow fence or deer netting around the new court; Decided that the netting would be the best option. A handicap accessibility path would be needed to go to the basketball court. Russell Township took all the sand that was removed to build the pickleball courts.

Facilities – Linda Palchick
The girls high school baseball team will use the field each week. No information from Rec Council of their needs. A $500 check was received from Rec Council. A few more permits have been received for the pavilion. E Power Special Needs group will hold an event on the baseball field on Thursdays from 5:45 to 7:00 pm, with this event ending August 13, 2026. Jason Abate will check on this field.

Ball field issue - -Home plate - -Umpire called a foul ball, but the foul line was not straight. It went out on an angle. Was home plate moved? Linda Palchick will contact Kelly to discuss. All the bases may need to be reset.

Linda Palchick brought up the subject as to where will our monthly Board meetings will be held during the fall and winter. The high school library can be used.
Jason Abate reported that all the mulching is done, bushes trimmed, plants are planted, and all the trails are open.

Chris Domonkos said the website is updated. ADA compliant. Our website is very antiquated/old. Needs to be attended to. Will contact our present company to see what can be done, and the cost.

Next meeting is Wednesday, August 18, 7 pm at the Commons Pavilion. Greg Poe motioned for meeting adjournment at 7:00 pm. Evan Byrum seconded the motion. Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. All in favor, motion carried.
