Regular Meeting – June 16, 2026

West Geauga Commons

President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Board members present:  Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. Chris Hare, Russell Township; Jason Abate and John Gromek were also present.

The minutes from the May 2026 meeting were presented by Clerk, Monica Gromek. Ed Curtis motioned to approve the minutes; Rick Izant seconded.  Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. All in favor, motion carried

Treasurer report - Ed Curtis

Treasurer Ed Curtis distributed the June 2026 treasurer’s report. The treasurer’s report showed: checking balance forwarded: $31,582.05; total disbursements: $23,725.50; ending checking balance: $31,582.05, Ending Savings Balance $24,525.55; total disbursements: $0, total deposits: $1.95; total encumbered funds $31,125.00.  Chris Domonkos motioned to accept the treasurer’s report. Linda Palchick seconded.   Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. All in favor, motion carried.

Chris Domonkos motioned that the following bills be paid:

Linda Palchick seconded the motion.  Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. All in favor, motion carried 

Ed Curtis stated that Industrial Surface Sealer’s quote was encumbered for $15, 400 but went up to $17,300 with the addition of inground sleeves.  Approved the new encumbered amount.

Facilities – Linda Palchick

Jason Abate will line the field for baseball games.  They are redoing the track at the high school.  The HS girls soccer team wants to do scrimmages on the upper field.  One pavilion request received for each week into August.

Maintenance

Jason Abate would like to know how to backfill the pickle ball court.  Barry Levan visited with a rep from Mentor pickle ball.  He said backfilling with sand. could make the court slippery.  Can backfill with asphalt grindings.  No grass.  In 3 weeks, painting can be done.  Poles go down 36” down.  Core drill and cement the poles in. 

Need nets, fence, poles for the new court.  Estimate cost 20K.

Chris Hare from Russell Township was present at this meeting.  He stated that 20K will be given next year to our Pickle Ball project.  Board estimated 20K for nets, fences, poles, and wind screening.  We will show a 20K donation in our 2027 budget and a 20k disbursement in our Capital Account for completion of the Pickleball Court. 

 

A thank you note was received from Natalie to the Board.  She enjoyed here Girl Scout project of the volleyball court overhaul at the Commons.

New business – Kristen Foerster will contact the high school for website help for our Commons.

Russell Day at the Commons on July 19, 2026.  Chris Hare summarized that the township departments will be bringing their vehicles.  A banner across the front of the pickle ball site will be there.  Natalie’s banner will be in front of the volleyball court.  Sara Sustin will contact the newspapers with information about this day/event. 

Our next board meeting will be one week earlier than usual…Tuesday, July 14, 2026.  Time of our meal will be 6:30 pm.  Board members volunteered to bring dishes to share. 

 

Ed Curtis motioned for meeting adjournment at 7:30 pm.  Linda Palchick seconded.  Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sara Sustin. All in favor, motion carried
